Brendan Rodgers hints at new Luis Suárez deal

Brendan Rodgers has hinted that Liverpool will offer Luis Suárez a new deal before the end of the season.

The Uruguayan, who scored four goals in the 5-1 rout against Norwich City on Wednesday night, has two-and-a-half years remaining on his current deal which the 26-year-old signed at the start of the 2012/13 campaign.

Rodgers on Suárez’s future
Suárez was the subject of a unique £40m and £1 bid from Arsenal in the summer as the Gunners sought to activate “a gentleman’s agreement” in his contract that allowed the forward to leave if a Champions League club made a bid.

However, Liverpool rejected Arsenal’s offer and Reds boss Rodgers insists no such clause exists in Suárez’s contract despite conflicting reports.

“There never was [a 'gentleman's agreement'] before, and there never was this summer,” Sky Sports News quotes Rodgers as saying. “The contract was what it was.

“We want him to stay and, with his contract running for two-and-a-half years, I am sure there will be something between now and the end of the season to keep him here.

“The most important thing is that the player is happy. I didn’t sit in on the conversations last summer but, as I understand it, there is no agreement of any kind. I think all parties are fairly comfortable at the moment. We made our feelings known in the summer and it is where it is.”
