LIVERPOOL PREPARING BID FOR TOTTENHAM MIDFIELDER

Liverpool are preparing an official bid for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson, according to sources at Anfield quoted on SportsDirect News.

Apparently, Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is keen to be reunited with the Iceland international, who he once managed when Sigurdsson was on loan at Swansea City.

It now appears that Liverpool are ready to make formal approach in January for the player who - having had a mixed spell at Spurs since he joined for £8.8m from Hoffenheim last year - has started to flourish in recent weeks.

Some outstanding performances for the national team combined with the fact he scored a brace against Norwich City last weekend has meant he is now back on the radar.

Also, the fact Gareth Bale has left the club means some of the fringe players at Spurs are getting more of an opportunity to fight for places.

"It remains unclear whether Spurs chairman Daniel Levy will want to sell but business is business," said the SportsDirect News source.

"Whatever he sells Gylfi for, there will be a decent mark-up."

Liverpool have suffered a major blow with the news that Philippe Coutinho has been ruled out until the end of October with the shoulder injury sustained against Swansea on Monday night.

The 21-year-old was forced off during the 2-2 draw at the Liberty Stadium after a clash with Ashley Williams and Anfield medical staff have decided that they will have to operate on the AC joint, which could see the Brazilian miss at least six games.

Star man Luis Suarez, banned for ten matches for biting Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic, is set for his return against Manchester United in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday.
