Liverpool step up their pursuit of £6 million teenage wonder kid

Liverpool are reported to be following Derby wonderkid Will Hughes rather keenly. The Reds had sent chief scout Dave Fallows to track the 18 year old and it is believed that manager Brendan Rodgers views the youngster as a potential heir to Steven Gerrard’s throne at Anfield.
It is reported that Rodgers values the 18 year old at £6 million and may make a move for him this January. However he might be willing to go up to £10 million including add-ons, if he manages to break into the England senior national team in the near future.
Meanwhile, if reports in The Daily Mirror are to be believed, the Reds’ Merseyside rivals Everton have also showed an interest in Hughes and are looking to usurp Liverpool’s bid to sign him. It is believed that the Toffees also sent a two-man delegation to observe the performance and development of the 18 year old.
With Gerrard approaching the twilight of his career, the Reds need to step up their search for a viable replacement for the Englishman. If Hughes arrives at Anfield soon, it would provide him with the chance to develop under the 33 year old which may prove beneficial for him in the long run.
