Wales call up 16 year old Liverpool winger Harry Wilson nicknamed the new Bale
“Liverpool youngster, 16 year old Harry Wilson, has also been added to the squad for the two FIFA 2014 World Cup Qualifiers. Harry recently excelled for the Wales Under 17 side in their matches against Hungary, Scotland and Slovenia.” – Official statement from the Welsh FA.
If Liverpool’s Harry Wilson, 16, appears for Wales in their match against Macedonia on Friday, he’ll break Gareth Bale’s seven-year record to become Wales’ youngest player by 112 days.
Admittedly, Chris Coleman has lost 10 members of his original Wales squad, but this caps a remarkable rise for Harry Wilson, who until yesterday was pretty much unheard of even by keen Liverpool supporters.
As a left-footed winger who cuts in from the right, with great pace, Wilson has predictably been described as the “new Gareth Bale.”
Wilson is the latest youngster to emerge from the Liverpool Academy that appears to be doing something right with the likes of Raheem Sterling, Andre Wisdom and Jordan Ibe all making an impact in recent months.
