Time is now for Liverpool and Christian Eriksen
What’s becoming odd, is that even though Eriksen’s asking price has plummeted dramatically in lieu of his contractual situation, no bid from Anfield has been forthcoming. Additionally, Eriksen has said publicly that, should he remain at the Amsterdam ArenA beyond the end of the current transfer window, he would sign a new contract to prevent his current club from losing him on a free next Summer.
What are Liverpool waiting for?
Eriksen isn’t the world-beater he’s commonly assumed to be, but he is an extremely fine player, and would be a snug fit within a Liverpool side who love to pass the ball and who rely heavily on movement high-up the pitch and incisive passing from attacking-midfield. If the rumours are true, and Ajax really are willing to listen to offers around the £10m-£15m mark, then that’s a no-brainer for Brendan Rodgers and FSG. This is a player who, the moment he starts to perform in a major European league, will start to dramatically appreciate in value – so, at the very least, Eriksen would be an extremely wise investment for someone.
…and, unlike Tottenham – the other rumoured suitor – Liverpool can offer him immediate game-time ahead of someone like Jordan Henderson.
Considering the fee and the talent of the player, I really don’t see any downside to this, and if ever a player and manager were suited to one another, it’s Eriksen and Rodgers.
Do it now, because somebody will move for him before the end of the month
