Liverpool very much contenders for a top 4 finish this season
It has been a long time since Liverpool had a good Premier League season, and with all the uncertainty around Luis Suarez’s future it is easy to believe that the club are very much in decline. However, it would be foolhardy to dismiss Liverpool as a one man team, something which Arsenal amazingly proved that they were not last season, despite the departure of their star striker Robin van Persie.
Funnily enough, Arsenal were able to recreate Van Persie’s goals through some shrewd purchases, and in Brendan Rodgers, Liverpool too have a thinking manager who is more than capable of achieving the same.
Liverpool in fact could make an emphatic start to their 2013-14 season as they have already made quality additions to their ever expanding arsenal of attacking talent in the form of recent arrivals like Luis Alberto and Iago Aspas. Signings made in the January transfer window of the 2012-13 campaign such as Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho, too ended last season in a rich vein of form and should only get better this season.
Add to this the fitness of club icon and captain Steven Gerrard, and one can expect Liverpool to come out of the blocks all guns blazing and challenge for Champions League football this season.
