Liverpool: Can we make a marquee signing?
With time running out until the transfer window shuts, can Liverpool still attract a big name to the club?
Liverpool have secured yet another signing this summer after hiring the services of Valencia left back Aly Cissokho on a season long loan.
Rodgers has been looking to reinforce that position and the French star will no doubt improve the squad.
However, the bad news for Liverpool and their supporters is that they have lost out on a major signing in transfer target Willian.
The Brazilian has opted to join Tottenham Hotspur instead, leaving the Reds empty handed, but with the funds to land a quality alternative.
The question is, who will be that marquee signing?
With Liverpool not have secured a big-money signing since the club signed two players on deadline day in 2011. In that particular window they infamously signed Andy Carroll for £35million, purchasing one Luis Suarez on the same day.
With only 11 days left in the transfer season, there are not many top options available currently, but Liverpool will surely not want to lose out on a player again just because they are not in Europe, which is now looking like a distinct possibility.
One likely option they might consider is Ajax’s Christian Eriksen.
Now that they have lost out on Willian, the chances are that Liverpool will focus on the Danish youngster instead.
The Anfield outfit are lacking an attacking midfielder and Eriksen is regarded as a top talent. Not so long ago, both the player and his manager at Ajax released statements hinting that there are chances Eriksen may as well move to Liverpool. However, the Reds have not yet reportedly submitted an offer.
Tottenham have made a habit of stealing Liverpool’s transfer targets this year. Willian is gone, Lamela is heading in the same direction. After signing two playmakers, Spurs certainly won't go for the trio with Eriksen.
Therefore, Brendan Rodgers must not waste time before other suitors turn up. Rivals for fourth place are reinforcing heavily and Liverpool must bring in a top quality star to aid their cause or else they may well fail to qualify for Champions League football for a fifth straight year.
