Liverpool reported to have tabled £19 million bid for another striker
Liverpool are in the market for a striker. Despite the stellar performances of Daniel Sturridge so far and the expected stay of star asset Luis Suarez, the Reds are looking to further furnish their options in front of goal. Reports in the Daily Star indicate that the Merseyside club has tabled a £19.7 million bid for Ukraine international Andriy Yarmolenko.
Yarmolenko currently plays for Ukrainian giants Dynamo Kyiv, the same club that gave us Andriy Shevchenko. Ukrainian newspaper Gazeta also confirms that Liverpool are close to sealing a deal, after the player’s agent Mikhail Gulordava admitted that it was the wish of the player to ply his trade in England, “He would like to follow in the footsteps of [Andriy] Shevchenko. Premier League clubs are also interested.”
Yarmolenko has scored 26 goals in the last two seasons for Kyiv and has 11 goals in 32 appearances for Ukraine. In 2013, he became the highest scoring foreign born player for the Ukraine national team. He has also courted interest from A.C Milan.
Liverpool have got off to a flawless start this season, thanks largely to their summer signing Simon Mignolet in front of their own goal and Sturridge in front of the opposition’s. With Suarez unlikely to hang around for too long after this season, the 23 year old could be a prudent long term investment by Brendan Rodgers.
