Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho cannot believe Liverpool star Daniel Sturridge was allowed to leave Stamford Bridge for as little as £12 million.
The Portuguese is facing having to splash out as much as £40m on Manchester United star Wayne Rooney, and is fuming Sturridge was allowed to leave Stamford Bridge – as he believes the England-bound star would be the answer to all of his striker woes.
Mourinho has seen Sturridge impress with his showings in the opening two games of this season – in which he has scored two goals – and is fuming that he was sold.
Sturridge left the Blues in January, with previous manager Rafael Benitez the man to let him swap Stamford Bridge for Anfield.
But Mourinho harbours concerns over the strength of the Reds’ squad this season, as he believes they could emerge as a genuine title rival – with Sturridge leading their charge.
England coach Roy Hodgson has also been impressed by Sturridge’s early season form, and is set to start him in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Moldova and Ukraine.
Should England qualify for the Samba showpiece, Hodgson has also pencilled the 23-year-old in as his number two striker – behind Manchester United star Wayne Rooney.
