Liverpool latest: Including Notts County team news and Mata loan attempt

A round up of the latest news and transfer stories connected to Liverpool.
In team news ahead of Liverpool’s League Cup match against Notts County, Andre Wisdom, Raheem Sterling, Jordon Ibe, Luis Alberto and Joe Allen are all in line to make starts, giving them a chance to impress the boss and throw their names into contention for Premier League football.
Brendan Rodgers has also vowed that the club won’t make the same mistakes as last season which saw them knocked out of domestic competition early.

“I made some mistakes last season, in terms of changing the team. When we played Swansea, they had a full-strength side out and we didn’t. They went on and won it and we were knocked out,” said the boss.
Liverpool’s audacious move to sign Chelsea midfielder Juan Mata on loan has been rejected instantly by the West London club. TalkSport has reported a Liverpool approach with Brendan Rodgers keen to sign the Spaniard on loan for the rest of the season to bolster his attacking options.
A more realistic loan option for the club is Victor Moses, a winger and forward at Chelsea with no immediate way into the first team under Jose Mourinho. Again, Rodgers is thought to be keen on securing the player on a season long loan deal before the transfer deadline.
Liverpool winger Oussama Assaidi has joined Stoke City on loan for the rest of the season. The midfielder links up with Mark Hughes’ side after it became apparent that he was not going to get much first team football at Anfield this season.
One player who won’t be leaving the club on loan in this transfer window is striker Fabio Borini. The Italian has struggled to break into the first team so far this season but Rodgers has insisted he remains a key part of his plans.
“There would be a queue of clubs wanting to take him if he was available. We want to keep a strong group, it's a very long season for us,” said Rodgers.
Away from the transfer market, Rodgers has urged caution in relation to defender Martin Kelly. There had been rumours that Kelly would make his return to first team action in the League Cup tie against Notts County but the boss has said he’s not quite ready to return.
Former Liverpool favourite John Aldridge has been piling the praise onto striker Daniel Sturridge, suggesting he bears many similarities to club legend John Barnes.
“Daniel Sturridge’s dazzling footwork reminded me of a Liverpool legend in his prime. The way the Liverpool striker weaved his way through the Aston Villa defence at the weekend immediately made me think of John Barnes,” said Aldridge.
