Brendan Rodgers will lead Liverpool to English & European success’
Former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore believes Brendan Rodgers will lead the Reds to English and European glory
Liverpool will be a success in England and Europe in the next five years, according to former Reds striker Stan Collymore.
The Merseyside outfit had made an
impressive start to the season and were top of the Premier League until a shock 1-0 loss to Southampton at Anfield on Saturday.
Brendan Rodgers signed eight players during the summer
transfer window as the Liverpool boss looks to forge a team capable of securing
a top-four finish.
The Reds are looking to end a four-year
absence from the Champions League, while the Merseyside outfit have not
lifted England’s top prize since 1990.
But former Liverpool forward Collymore
reckons the 18-time English champions are heading in the right direction under
Rodgers.
“Brendan Rodgers doesn’t have as much
money perhaps as Chelsea and Manchester City,” he told talkSPORT. “But he’s getting
together a very good young team, players like Andre Wisdom, Raheem Sterling and
Philippe Coutinho.
“The aims and ambitions for Liverpool this
season is to try to get into that top four. Brendan Rodgers has to do what he
does best – which is take young players, develop them, coach them and work with
them every single day.
“It may take a little bit longer than it
has taken Manchester City or Chelsea, who threw lots of money at the club very
early. But I do see Liverpool, in the next five years, being successful in
England and Europe once again.”
