Liverpool FC ready to spend, spend, spend
Liverpool FC are ready to spend big in the next two or three transfer windows to finally catch up with their top four rivals.
Suggestions that the club’s American owners were looking to cut their cloth in the next few seasons have been roundly dismissed, as club insiders say this summer’s spending spree which saw players such as Kolo Toure, Mamadou Sakho, Tiago Ilori and Victor Moses brought in is merely a taster of what is to come.
Indeed, manager Brendan Rodgers hinted as much speaking to the press when he highlighted the £100 million or so spent by Spurs and Manchester City as the type of figure needed if the club were to compete.
Talking about Spurs in particular, who are seen at Anfield as the team it is most feasible to overtake, he said: “They have spent £100m to try and get in the top four. It will take another few windows to get that quality in our group.”
Rodgers, the Manager of the Month award for August, said the good start to the campaign was a “collective effort” and paid fulsome tribute to bth the players and the backroom staff.
