Coutinho v Oscar: Who is the Premier League's best Brazilian?
Which player comes out on top in the battle of these two fine playmakers?
Ever since Liverpool signed Brazilian playmaker Coutinho from Inter Milan back in January, a large debate has been created comparing Liverpool’s number 10 against Chelsea’s number 11, Oscar.
Oscar was too, in his debut campaign last season having signed for Chelsea back in August 2012.
So which of the two is the better player?
Starting off with their International careers, I think there is a clear winner. Coutinho has rarely featured for the Brazil national team whilst Oscar has 22 caps and six goals to his name for the five time World Cup winners. Oscar is now a regular for Brazil yet Coutinho just can’t make it into the team.
Both players have a certain player or players they link up particularly well with for their respective clubs. At Liverpool, Coutinho has formed a brilliant partnership with England striker Daniel Sturridge and at Chelsea Oscar links up very well with Juan Mata and Eden Hazard. The winner of this particular contest in my opinion is Coutinho.
Oscar, Mata and Hazard have earned a nickname of "Mazacar" due to their on the field partnership but Coutinho and Sturridge have known each other for a shorter amount of time, and most of Sturridge’s Liverpool goals have come from Coutinho.
Passing and creativity is an ability both players possess very strongly and their position of attacking midfield can suggest why. They both have been seen to supply some sensational passes but the winner of this goes to, once again, Coutinho.
Oscar is a very creative player especially alongside the likes of Mata and Hazard but I have personally seen some absolutely wonderful passes from Coutinho with both feet and both sides of his feet.
The two of them are not particularly great shooters but I would simply go for Oscar due to his tally of goals for clubs and country and the fact that he has already got his name on the score sheet this season.
Oscar and Coutinho have both had sweet careers so far with them both scoring and assisting many times already, at the ages of 22 and 21. The winner of this result though, would have to be Oscar.
Coutinho has already played for two massive clubs in his short career but what Oscar has done in such a short time; you have to give this one to him.
Oscar has won the Campeonato Gaucho twice and the Recopa Sudamericana once from when he was at Internacional and in his first season at Chelsea, he won the Europa league and is expected to win much more.
The only major trophies Coutinho has won are the Coppa Italia and the Supercoppa Italiana from his time at Inter Milan.
So, after a very even contest, Oscar comes out on top. This maybe could be because he has better players playing alongside him but one thing you can’t deny, these two are future greats.
