Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is looking for his side to maintain a place among the Premier League's top six, before adding to his squad in the new year.
The Reds made a promising start to the new season, having won their opening three Premier League matches.
However, a draw at Swansea, a home defeat by Southampton and being knocked out of the Capital One Cup by Manchester United last night - despite the return of Luis Suarez -  have given the Liverpool boss food for thought.
Speaking after the 1-0 defeat at Old Trafford he declared his intention to add to his squad in January.
"The players have made an excellent start," said Rodgers."We were disappointed at the weekend, we were a bit flat and subdued and just couldn't really get going.
"Part of that was because of the players we have available, but I know that the players I have give absolutely everything.
"Now we can only concentrate on the league through to Christmas. We have to make sure we stay up in the top six in the league and keep fighting.
"Hopefully we can reinforce again in January."
The 18-time league champions currently find themselves fifth in the Premier League, having taken 10 points from their opening five matches.
Next up, the Reds embark on a trip to the Stadium of Light where they face managerless Sunderland, who currently sit at the foot of the league table.
